The Whitby area is a fantastic location for everything from a romantic short break to a full family/friends holiday. With easy access to so many wonderful locations and attractions, there truly is something for everyone!

North York Moors

The North York Moors stretch for miles inland from Whitby, towards York - a fantastic city for shopping and sight-seeing which is only an hour away by car. The Moors are best seen in late summer, when the heather blooms and provides a beautiful purple carpet for the countryside. But it's not all moorland. Dalby Forest is one of the largest natural forests in the country and is home to some of the best mountain bike trails in the UK, as well as an excellent visitor centre (with cafe), walking, children's play area and Go Ape (a tree-top adventure!).

Esk Valley

The Esk Valley is home to a number of wonderfully traditional and peaceful villages, including Grosmont with its magnificent steam railway (which runs from Whitby to Pickering) and engine sheds, Goathland, made famous by the filming of Heartbeat for ITV, and Danby, with its excellent North York Moors Visitor Centre, to name but a few. Almost all offer a range of local amenities, shops and pubs, and provide fantastic locations for picnics and walking.

Whitby

Whitby is famous for fish and chips and fishing - but there's much more to it than that! From the ancient granduer of the Abbey and 199 Steps, to the bustling cobbled streets of Whitby's 'East Side' offering a fantastic choice of independant shops and cafes, to Pannett Park in the centre of town, the harbour, swing bridge, piers and many more attractions.

There is an excellent choice of restaurant and take-aways - with something for all tastes and budgets. And if you're of a more 'active' persuasion, Whitby provides direct access to both the old railway path which runs down the coast to Scarborough and the Cleveland Way, following the cliff top to Robin Hood's Bay.
